Bicycle airbag technology

At the heart of the MASE AIRDING is the innovative sensor technology from MINERVA Airbag Systems. Minerva-AS is now one of the only developers and manufacturers of personal protective equipment with airbags. With the Opus safety vest, Minerva has been setting first-class standards in occupational safety for many years. Experience gained from over 1,000,000 hours of use in occupational safety created the basis for developing the AIRDING bicycle airbag backpack under the company's own MASE brand together with bicycle enthusiasts, racing professionals and stuntmen. Through numerous test rides and simulated bicycle crashes, we were able to collect the necessary data for the algorithm and implement it in our bicycle airbag technology.

The bicycle airbags

Depending on the design, our MASE airbags protect the head, face, shoulders, collarbones and upper body, for example.

Deployed AIRDING Tour airbag that rests against the dummy doll's neck and face. The bicycle airbag has two airbag wings at the front, which additionally cushion the fall and protect against facial injuries. The dummy also wears a helmet.

The AIRDING TOUR protects the face, neck, cervical spine, shoulders and collarbone in particular. It is particularly suitable for cyclists who wear a helmet. This backpack model is the lightest we currently carry and is therefore also designed for road cyclists who are concerned about safety.

The AIRDING CRUISE also protects the head by enclosing the sides of your head. This airbag model is the best choice for non-helmet wearers.

In this picture, the dummy is wearing the deployed AIRDING CRUISE airbag. Instead of the front airbag wings, this has higher side walls at the top, which increase head safety. It also has extended airbag shoulder sections. The dummy does not wear a helmet.

Back protector

The picture shows the Basic model back protector plate, which is installed next to the innovative bicycle airbag technology. It is black and there are three small protector parts in a row.

In addition to the airbags, an integrated back protector also protects the cyclist's back and spine. All MASE AIRDING models are equipped with this TÜV-certified back protector. This offers you solid protection.

Sensor activation

The airbag system is activated by closing the chest buckle. If the LED on the chest buckle flashes green, the system is functional.

The functionality and battery charge level are automatically checked during the closing process. In addition, the remaining battery life must be more than four hours for the system to be operational.

The picture shows the back of the airbag bike backpack. It illustrates how the bicycle airbag technology is activated. The chest strap buckle, on which the MASE logo is shown, is closed and flashes green.

Bicycle airbag deployment

Slow Motion

Our innovative bicycle airbag technology is equipped with several sensors. These check the movements, inclinations and accelerations on the bike 300 times per second. As soon as an unforeseen forward, sideways or backward movement occurs, the sensor automatically triggers the airbag. It is inflated with CO₂ gas in less than 150 milliseconds.

Reusability

If your AIRDING is triggered, you don't have to throw it away. Quite the opposite! All you need is a new release cartridge. Simply replace it with the old one and you are safely back on your bike.

Our products are characterized by the fact that they are reusable. It is important that you stow the airbag properly in your rucksack after deployment. Please refer to our instructions for use or watch our videos. The airbag backpacks are assembled by hand in our production facility in Erding.

The picture shows the front of the backpack with the deployment unit. The safety pin and a release cartridge on the side, which are part of the innovative airbag technology, are clearly visible.

Charging airbag system

The picture shows the charging point. A USB-C cable is held in the hand, pointing to the connection point in the electronics unit in the backpack.

The MASE AIRDING is charged via USB-C cable. A full charge takes around two hours. A USB-C cable is of course included in the scope of delivery.
