Bicycle airbag technology

The heart of the MASE AIRDING is its intelligent sensor technology - developed by MINERVA-AS, the company behind the MASE brand(Minerva Airbag Systems Erding). Minerva-AS is one of the pioneers in the development and manufacture of personal protective equipment with airbags. With the Opus safety vest, Minerva-AS has been setting standards in occupational safety for many years.

More than one million hours of use in this area provided the basis for our next mission: to create the best protection on two wheels. Through numerous test rides and simulated crashes, we were able to collect valuable movement data and incorporate it into the airbag algorithm. Together with bicycle enthusiasts, racing professionals and stunt riders, we developed the MASE AIRDING: lightweight, intelligent and ready to react in a split second.

The bicycle airbags

Depending on the design, our MASE airbags protect the head, face, shoulders, collarbones and upper body, for example.

The AirTour was our first airbag model and paved the way for our current technology. It protects the face, neck, cervical spine and collarbone. It is suitable for cyclists who wear a helmet. This airbag model is the lightest we currently offer in the Fusion series - perfect for road cyclists who value safety and still need some storage space. The AirTour is currently still available in limited quantities.

The AirRide is the further development of our first model, the AirTour. It not only offers protection for the face, neck and cervical spine, but also for the shoulders - for an even more comprehensive safety concept.
Ideal for cyclists who wear a helmet and don't want to compromise when riding.

The AirRide is available in both our Fusion and Compact. The Compact is our latest and lightest model. The carrier has been reduced to a minimum and weighs just under 1000 grams with the cartridge. It deliberately dispenses with additional storage space and is aimed at all (sporty) riders who are looking for maximum protection with minimum weight.
Due to its compact design, the more powerful AirCruise airbag is not compatible with this carrier system.

The AirCruise has side airbag walls that additionally enclose the head area. This airbag model is the best choice for basic non-helmet wearers. Note: The AirCruise does not replace a helmet and does not offer complete head protection.

Back protector

In addition to the airbags, an integrated back protector provides additional protection for the back and spine. All Fusion models are equipped with this TÜV-certified back protector. This offers you solid protection.
The Compact also has a smaller, specially adapted back protector, which guarantees optimum protection with minimum weight.

Together with the airbag, the protector also prevents you from injuring yourself if you fall onto the cartridge.

Sensor activation

The airbag system is automatically activated when the chest buckle is closed. If the LED on the chest buckle flashes green, the system is ready for use.

When closing, the functionality and battery status are also checked. If the remaining battery life falls below four hours, the LED indicates this by flashing red and green.

Bicycle airbag deployment

Slow Motion

Our innovative bicycle airbag technology is equipped with several sensors. These check the movements, inclinations and accelerations on the bike 300 times per second. As soon as an unforeseen forward, sideways or backward movement occurs, the sensor automatically triggers the airbag. It is inflated with CO₂ gas in less than 150 milliseconds. Our sensor technology is based on years of data analysis and recognizes typical fall patterns. Nevertheless, no system can guarantee absolute safety. Please note that false triggering or non-triggering may occur in individual cases.

Reusability

If the airbag is ever deployed, you do not have to dispose of your AIRDING. Quite the opposite! All you need is a new deployment cartridge, which you simply replace with the old one - and your backpack is ready for use again.

Our products are characterized by the fact that they are reusable. It is important that you stow the airbag properly in your rucksack after deployment. Please refer to our instructions for use or watch our videos. Each backpack is assembled by hand in our production facility in Erding - highest quality and precision guaranteed.

The picture shows the front of the backpack with the deployment unit. The safety pin and a release cartridge on the side, which are part of the innovative airbag technology, are clearly visible.

Charging airbag system

The picture shows the charging point. A USB-C cable is held in the hand, pointing to the connection point in the electronics unit in the backpack.

The MASE AIRDING is charged via a USB-C cable. A full charge takes around two hours. A USB-C cable is of course included in the scope of delivery.
